Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 13, 2025

Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what your rights are. We've tried to make it as clear and straightforward as possible.

By using our Service, you agree to us collecting and using your information in the ways described here.

The Basics & Key Definitions

Certain key words in this policy have specific meanings. Here are the most important ones:

  • We, Us, Our: This refers to our company, Capture Dev Ltd, located at International House, 55 Longsmith Street, Gloucester, United Kingdom, GL1 2HT.
  • You: This means you, the person using our Service. Under GDPR, you might also be called the "Data Subject."
  • Service: This refers to our software application, capture.dev.
  • Personal Data: This is any information that can be used to identify you, like your name, email address, or an online identifier.
  • Service Providers: These are other companies we work with to help us run our Service, like our payment processor or email provider.

What Information We Collect and How We Use It

We collect information in a few different ways, depending on how you use capture.dev.

1. Your Account & Billing Details (For Our Customers)

When you sign up for a capture.dev account or contact us for support, we collect information directly from you. This includes:

  • Contact Information: Your first and last name, and email address.
  • Billing Information: When you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor, Paddle, collects your payment details. We never store or have direct access to your full credit card number.

2. Data from the Bug Reporting Widget (From Your End-Users)

The main feature of our Service is the bug reporting widget you install on your own application. It’s designed to be privacy-first:

  • It only collects data when your end-user actively chooses to submit a bug report.
  • All sensitive data is redacted on the end-user's computer before it is sent to our servers.

Here’s what the widget collects when a report is submitted:

  • User-Provided Content: The bug description and any attachments the user decides to include.
  • Technical Data for Debugging: To help developers fix the bug, the widget captures:
    • Device Details: Browser name, version, OS, and screen resolution.
    • Console Logs: Any logs, warnings, and errors from the browser's JavaScript console.
    • Network Requests: A list of network activity (URL, method, status). We automatically remove sensitive headers like 'Authorization' and 'Cookie' and never capture the body of the request or response.
    • User Actions: A timeline of events like clicks and key presses that led to the bug.
    • Visuals: A screenshot and/or recording of the page when the report was made.

3. Usage Data (How You Use Our Service)

We collect some data automatically to help us maintain and improve the capture.dev platform. This includes:

  • Information like your IP address, browser type, which pages of our service you visit, and when you visited them.
  • We also use a service called Amplitude to analyze how you, our customer, interact with the capture.dev dashboard so we can make it better.

4. Info from Third-Party Logins

You can create an account using Google or Github. If you do, we may collect Personal Data that is already linked to that account, like your name and email address.

We use the data we collect for several reasons:

  • To Run Our Service: To provide our service to you, maintain it, and monitor its usage.
  • To Manage Your Account: To handle your registration and give you access to features.
  • To Fulfill a Contract: To process your subscription purchase.
  • To Contact You: To send you emails or other notifications about updates to the service, including security updates.

  • To Improve Our Service: For data analysis, to spot usage trends, and to improve our Service, products, and marketing.
  • In Case of a Business Transfer: If we sell or merge our company, your data may be part of the assets transferred.

When We Share Your Information

We only share your information in a few specific situations:

  • With Service Providers: We share information with companies that help us run our business, such as for payment processing or analyzing service usage.
  • For Business Transfers: We may share your information if we are negotiating a merger or sale of our company.
  • With Your Consent: We may share your information for any other reason if you give us your permission to do so.
