Jira integration
Connect Capture to Jira to automatically create issues with complete context for any bug. Screenshots, descriptions, and technical details flow directly into your Jira workflow without manual copying.
Connecting Jira
To connect Jira to Capture, you'll need to be a team admin:
- Go to the Integrations page in your Capture dashboard
- Find Jira and click Connect
- You'll be redirected to Jira to authenticate and grant Capture access
- Once connected, you can configure default destination settings
Individual mode (optional)
By default, all Jira issues created by Capture will show as "Created by" the person who connected the integration. If you'd prefer issues to be attributed to the team member who actually reported them, enable individual mode.
In individual mode:
- Each team member connects their own Jira account
- Issues they create appear in Jira as coming from them
- Team members can connect via the Integrations page or directly from the destination settings when creating their first capture
The original connection becomes the "primary connection" and is used for:
- Setting default destination settings on the integration management page
- Creating issues from bugs reported by customers or guest users (when auto-publish is enabled)
Tip: If you don't want to use individual mode, consider creating a shared Jira user for Capture (like "capture-bot@yourcompany.com") and connecting with that account instead.
Configuring default settings
After connecting, configure where bug reports should go by default:
- Project - Which Jira project to create issues in
- Issue type - Bug, Task, Story, or other custom issue types
- Status - The initial status for new issues (e.g., "To Do", "Backlog")
These defaults can be overridden when creating individual bug reports.
Important: If you're using individual mode, users can only publish to projects they have access to in Jira. If default settings point to a project a user can't access, publishing will fail for that capture.
Auto-publish
Enable auto-publish to automatically send every bug report to Jira without manual selection. When auto-publish is enabled:
- The Jira integration is turned on by default when creating captures
- Users can still disable it for individual reports if needed
- Bugs reports by guest users are automatically sent to Jira using the default settings
If auto-publish is disabled, users can opt in to publishing each report to Jira when they create it, or after creation from the capture dashboard.
What gets sent to Jira
When a bug report is published to Jira, the issue includes:
- Screenshot or screen recording - Attached to the issue
- Description - The user's explanation of what went wrong
- Environment details - Browser, device, and operating system information
- Custom context - Any additional data your team has configured in the Web SDK
- Link to full report - A link back to Capture.dev where developers can view console logs, network requests, and complete technical context
